Several people evacuated from Pakefield Holiday Park near Lowestoft as road collapses onto beach

An evacuation has taken place at a Suffolk caravan park last night as a section of road has collapsed onto the beach below.

HM Coastguard Lowestoft and an officer from Fire Officer from Suffolk Fire & Rescue Service were called to Pakefield Holiday Park in Arbor Lane, near Lowestoft, at 9.39pm.

Yesterday afternoon, a section of the road in front of the clifftop caravans collapsed onto the beach.

Some of the caravans are now ‘dangerously close’ to the edge and several people have been evacuated.

In a post on Facebook, the coastguard said that the beach at the bottom of the steps at Arbor Lane has mostly washed away and there is now a drop onto what is left of the beach.

The coastguard has cordoned off the steps and relevant organisations have been informed.
