Great Yarmouth man Marcus Stewart, who committed burglaries in Suffolk, the focus of Channel 5 show Police: Suspect No.1

A man who committed a string of burglaries across Suffolk and Norfolk was the focus of a Channel 5 show last night.

Marcus Stewart, of Middlegate, Great Yarmouth, was sentenced to two years and four months in a Youth Offender's Institution at Norwich Crown Court in March last year.

The crimes committed by Stewart, who was 20 at the time of his sentencing, were at the centre of the latest episode of Police: Suspect No. 1 on Channel 5.

Detectives from Norfolk Constabulary offered a glimpse behind the scenes to television cameras, showing how they eventually tracked down Stewart.

Officers conducted thorough patrols of Great Yarmouth and nearby areas, before eventually arresting Stewart after he handed himself in.

A key moment from the programme showed how CCTV inquiries led to Stewart being identified as a suspect in both sets of burglaries.

In court, Stewart admitted to breaking into homes in Norfolk, on January 17, 2022, as well as two properties in Southwold Road in Wrentham, Suffolk, on January 13.

One of the homes that Stewart targeted in Wrentham belonged to an 88-year-old woman, who was at home at the time of the incident.

He entered through an open window and stole a large amount of jewellery, before targeting a second home in Southwold Road.
