East of England Co-op to close at Rosehill retail centre in Ipswich

A popular food store will be closing its doors at the end of month – with employees offered the chance to relocate to another branch.

The East of England Co-op at the Rosehill retail centre in Ipswich will shut on Saturday, January 27.

CEO Doug Field said the decision to close the store, as well as two branches in Frinton-on-Sea, is part of the company’s plan to strengthen the business.

He said: “This is difficult news to announce, but this is unfortunately the right thing to do to allow us to continue to grow.

“This is absolutely no reflection on our incredible colleagues, who provide fantastic service to our members and customers. As you would expect we are doing all we can to support them.

“It’s important to remember that in 155 years we have had to constantly evolve our Co-op and however difficult these decisions are they are made for the right reasons so we can continue to strengthen our business.

“These branches all have other Co-ops nearby that will be able to support our customers in the future.”

The Rosehill store previously saw a major refurbishment in 2014 which cost £120,000.
