Thetford Town Council’s Small Grants Scheme awards more than £1,600 to four community groups

A quartet of community groups have shared more than £1,600 of grant funding awarded by Thetford Town Council.

The town’s football club, cricket club, rugby club and Methodist church have been given the money through the council’s Small Grants Scheme.

The football club will be using its £342.92 to purchase new litter bins at their Mundford Road ground and the rugby club will use the £500 grant to offer youth rugby opportunities, encouraging children to participate in the sport.

Thetford Methodist Church will be using its £500 to provide a safe and friendly place for people to meet and chat over a cup of tea to tackle loneliness and the cricket club will use its £300 to buy kitchen equipment in order to provide new services at the club.

Councillor Terry Jermy, chairman of the council’s amenities committee which agreed the grants, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to confirm this recent batch of funding requests to support these organisations.

“We know that there are lots of groups in Thetford doing great work and the small grants scheme is about helping them with project costs or ongoing expenses so that they continue their great work.”

The council’s scheme distributes a total of £6,000 each year to local good causes and there is no deadline for groups apply for funds.
