Needham Market barber Katie De Cova launches The Barber Den in Creeting St Mary

A barber with 22 years of experience has launched her own hairdressing business from a log cabin perched on the edge of her in-laws’ garden.

Katie De Cova, 38, has opened The Barber Den in Creeting St Mary, just outside Needham Market off the A140.

She has been cutting hair in the town for the past 14 years but decided to finally launch her own business and become self-employed.

She said: “It’s honestly been amazing so far and the response online has been fantastic.

“It was a bit scary at first to become self-employed – but I’m so pleased to have finally done it.

“It just goes to show you always have to keep your options because you never know what might happen.”

The Barber’s Den opened on Tuesday, January 2 and has proven very popular in its first two weeks of opening.

It is appointment only and offers haircuts for men and children as well as beard trims, skinfades and discounted prices for over 65’s.

Katie is hoping to expand the business going forward as she looks into introducing hairdressing for women and offering a ‘chair-to-rent’ in the future.

She added: “They’re both possibilities in the future – but I’m really just focusing on giving great haircuts and building my customer base at the moment.

“Honestly it’s been such a shock to see how much attention I’ve had since opening. I really want to thank everyone who has been so supportive of this crazy adventure.”
