Africa Alive, between Lowestoft and Southwold, announces birth of critically endangered addax calf

A Suffolk animal reserve has announced the birth of a critically endangered nomadic Sahara Desert living antelope at its site.

The female addax calf, yet to be named by her keepers, was born on December 19 at Africa Alive in Kessingland, between Lowestoft and Southwold.

The Whites Lane site has been part of a breeding programme for addax since 2011.

Addax, whose wild population is now estimated to be between 30 to 90 mature individuals, is on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s red list
