Haverhill Running Club praised for going the extra mile to support the East Anglian Air Ambulance

A charity has expressed its gratitude to the ‘life-saving support’ shown to it by Haverhill Running Club (HRC).

Last week, the club visited the East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) in Norwich to present the money it raised during 2023.

HRC committee member, Stephen Husband explained that at the start of each year members nominate and then vote for a new charity of the year. Last year the EAAA was selected.

He added: “It is a charity that many club members hold close to their hearts.

“Throughout the year the club fund-raised with raffles, cake stalls and sponsorship and managed to raise an amazing £2,000.

“Thank you to the many local businesses who helped along the way with donations and prizes for raffles.

“One of our key fund-raisers was junior member, Lewis Garstang, 14, who would often manage the cake stalls on race days, come rain or shine.”

On January 3, Lewis, his mum Lynette and club chairman, Mark Novels, presented the donation to the charity.

Stephen added: “Haverhill Running Club is very proud of their fund-raising and close links to the local community.”

Zoe Harris, community fund-raiser for EAAA, said: “We are thrilled that Haverhill Running Club chose to support EAAA in 2023, raising an incredible £2,000 to save lives across the region.

“It has been wonderful to hear how their members of all ages have been inspired to raise money through holding cake sales, BBQ’s and raffles.

“EAAA relies almost entirely on the enthusiasm and generosity of people across the region to raise the funds needed to deliver and develop the 24/7 service.

“This helps to give critically ill or injured people in Suffolk, Norfolk, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire the best chance of surviving and recovering from a life-threatening emergency.

“A huge thank you to everybody involved with Haverhill Running Club for their amazing life-saving support.”
