The route – which has been waterlogged since Sunday – has water across both lanes.

One eyewitness described the flooding as ‘the worst’ they’d ever seen.

Despite this, the road remains open.

Compiegne Way is prone to flooding, and most recently shut on December 19 after heavy rains.

Pooling at the railway bridge – which is regarded as among the most bashed bridges in the county – the conditions have made the drive through the area more precarious.

The AA Route Planner described the flooding as ‘just passable’ as traffic is still able to flow.
