Waveney Gymnastics Club, near Lowestoft, enjoys golden weekend at national championships





A Suffolk gymnastics club has had a golden weekend, with five of their gymnasts being crowned British champions.

Waveney Gymnastics Club, in Lowestoft, took home 26 medals collectively at the 2023 British Disability British Artistic Championships at Lilleshall.

The event saw 60 junior and senior gymnasts from across the UK take to the floor across men’s and women’s competitions.

The haul included 10 golds, eight silvers and eight bronzes for Waveney.

In the men’s competition, Leo Thomspon took home gold on the pommel horse, floor, vault and the all-around competition, with silvers in horizontal bar, parallel bars and rings.

In the men’s junior competition, Simon Booth struck gold on the horizontal bars, pommel horse, vault, rings and the all-around competition, with silvers in parallel bars and floor.

Grace Beales achieved gold on beam, vault and in all-around in the women’s junior competition, alongside bronzes in uneven bars and floor.

There was a silver medal in uneven bars for Stephanie Sullivan in the women’s senior competition, as well as a quad of bronzes in vault, floor, beam and the all-around competition.

Rounding up the medal haul was Jack Jacobs, with a bronze double in pommel horse and all-around in the men’s senior competition.
