East Suffolk Council announces Felixstowe flood gates to close in wake of Met Office yellow weather warning





Flood gates at a coastal town have been closed following a weather warning from the Met Office.

A yellow warning was issued yesterday for strong and gusty winds which are expected to affect the county until 3am tomorrow morning (December 31).

As a result, East Suffolk Council has taken the decision to close the Felixstowe flood gates, after the tidal ‘trigger’ was reached.

Met Office maps show the weather warning for wind will cover Suffolk towns in the east of the county, including Ipswich, Woodbridge, Felixstowe and Lowestoft.

There is also likely to be delays to air, road. ferry and rail transport.

Some coastal routes and communities are likely to see spray and large waves.
