Bury St Edmunds roads Fornham Road/Mildenhall Road crossroads and Station Hill could see out-of-hours closures next week for pothole repairs

Two key Bury St Edmunds roads are planned to undergo pothole repairs next week, with road closures required.

There has been anger and frustration over the state of the roads, with residents complaining of ‘dangerous’ defects that have been damaging vehicles.

The Tollgate Triangle junction and Station Hill, in Bury, as well as The Avenue, in the nearby village of Great Barton, have featured in our reports.

Today, a spokeswoman for Suffolk Highways said: “A couple of the defects were temporarily repaired on Fornham Road [Tollgate junction] last week to make them safe.

“However, permanent repairs are planned for the Fornham Road/Mildenhall Road crossroads, as well as on Station Hill next week.

“This is dependent on the approval of road space availability as these sites require out-of-hours road closures.”

The spokeswoman said highways teams had repaired potholes along The Avenue, in Great Barton, this week, but the road is set to be closed again for the remaining defects to be tackled.

The spokeswoman for Suffolk Highways said due to a road closure being required to undertake the repairs safely, the remaining potholes would be repaired in the coming weeks.

Landscape gardener Tom Lamb, from Moreton Hall, Bury, has received widespread praise for carrying out temporary repairs to potholes in The Avenue on Monday.
