It was a fitting end to 2023 for the company, during which it also celebrated its 45th anniversary.

“We were delighted to win the award, which was also the second year running,” said Ben Smith, general manager.

“In the 15 years I have been here, I think we probably have best team we have ever had.

“We have continued meeting our targets for the United Pallet Network at 100 per cent since joining the network in 2019.”

Cross Country Carriers was founded by current managing director Jon Humphrey and his son, Joe, now director, in 1978.

At first Jon operated it as a man with a van-style business, locally and across the UK, from his base in Great Barton.

The company moved to Beetons Way in the mid-1980 and then moved to Symonds Farm a few years later.

It now employs 66 staff including around 50 drivers and has a fleet of 42 vehicles ranging from vans from 3.5 tonne vans to 44 tonne trucks.

It has also been a member of the Pallet Ways network since 2008, and will join a third network, Pallex, at beginning of March, which will bring in more work.

The company operates within the 33 districts of the Ipswich postcode area, and 16 districts within in the east of England, Cambridge postcode area.

It also ventures nationwide when needed.

Ben added: “We work for everyone from individuals to major corporations across a wide range of industries including, construction, hospitality, motor trade, food produce, and household products.

“Our performance has been strong, and we are looking forward growing in 2024.”
