Residents call for action over ‘ticking time bomb’ pothole in Combs Lane, Stowmarket

Stowmarket residents are calling for immediate action over a ‘ticking time bomb’ pothole.

Marc Bason, 28, said he was forced to take action against the pothole in Combs Lane after eight cars punctured their tyres in one day.

Yesterday, he coned off the area and put a ‘slow’ sign on the approach to the pothole to warn drivers.

The pothole first appeared at the start of December and has been getting progressively worse.

Marc said: “It’s on a tight road and given all the flooding that we had, you can’t see it until it’s too late.

“It shouldn’t be happening. It has become so wide that it has taken up half the lane.

“I’m surprised the council has not been out to warn people because it now has gotten to the stage where it will cause a fatality. It’s a ticking time bomb.

“If someone hits that road, it could cause serious injury, especially to motorcyclists.

“One car had two blow outs, so that was £300 to replace that. It’s not great.”

Marc said residents regularly updated each other about the state of the pothole on Facebook, but not everyone was part of the group, which promoted him to take action.

He added a number of residents had reported the pothole.

According to the Suffolk County Council website, the pothole had been reported 13 times since the start of the year.

A spokesperson for Suffolk Highways said: “We are attending site today to make the location safe with a temporary repair, ahead of a more permanent one.

“We thank residents for their patience and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
