Stairs at Parkway Multi-Storey car park in Bury St Edmunds to be painted to improve grip

A town’s car park stairwells are being painted to improve the grip on the stairs.

The Parkway Multi-Storey car park in Bury St Edmunds will be painted over the next fortnight with work due to start on Monday.

It is being carried out in two phases to ensure the car park will remain open – but users have been warned that there could be some disruption for the next couple of weeks.

Cllr Diane Hind, Cabinet Member for Resources at West Suffolk Council, said: “We are carrying out these works to improve the grip on the stairs for people using our car park.

“We appreciate that this will cause some disruption particularly for people who use the car park on a daily basis.

“We are managing the works so that we can keep the car park open throughout and we would ask everyone to bear with us.”

The North end stairwell, near B&Q, will be closed from Monday which means the lift will not be accessible while the works take place.

Once it is completed, the stairwell will reopen and the painting of the South end stairwell, near Cineworld, will begin.
