Plans for a community café and toilet block at a popular park in Suffolk have been given the go ahead.

Derek Davis, Babergh District Council cabinet member for economic growth, said: “Belle Vue Park will continue to move in the right direction thanks to the unanimous approval of these plans.

“We are committed to supporting the regeneration of Sudbury town centre, with the installation of the café providing a welcome lift to the area and giving visitors something new to enjoy.”

The refurbished toilets in Gaol Lane opened earlier this week which the council committed more than £50,000 to – and further funds will be allocated to the Belle Vue Park development as part of wider plans to improve public toilets in the town.

This funding was approved in September 2023 which includes proceeds from selling Belle Vue House in May 2023.

The park’s existing 1930s toilet block, which is in poor condition, will be demolished to make room for the new facilities.

It is not yet clear when the works will start.
