Thetford Foodbank helped by Bishops CE Primary Academy in Canterbury Way with reverse Advent calendar

Thetford Foodbank has received donated goods from pupils from a town school after they organising a ‘reverse Advent’ calendar event.

The school council from Bishops CE Primary Academy in Canterbury Way decided to create the calendar and picked their chosen charity after being inspired by the amount raised by Children in Need.

Headteacher Lorraine Ratcliffe said: “We gave our families a list of things they could donate such as toiletries and pasta and each day they have given something.

“They are so giving and thoughtful. Our parents get so involved with events and even though they do not have a lot their generosity holds no bounds. This is such a selfless and welcoming community, it is a beautiful thing.”

The school, which is in one of the most deprived postcodes in the country, is now hoping to continue the idea to help some its families all year round.

Lorraine said: “We are hoping to do this in the school’s entrance, so when families feel it is going well for them they can pop a couple of things in and when they are struggling or need something they can help themselves.
