Ipswich Town complete loan signing of Blackburn Rovers captain Lewis Travis

Ipswich Town have completed the loan signing of Lewis Travis from Blackburn Rovers.

The midfielder, who was Blackburn’s club captain, joins the Tractor Boys for the remainder of the season having made 20 appearances in the Sky Bet Championship for Rovers this season, 12 of those coming from the start.

Once on the books of Liverpool, the 26-year-old joined Blackburn’s youth set-up in 2014 and has spent the last decade at Ewood Park, making 224 appearances for the Lancashire outfit – almost 200 of them coming in the second tier.

Speaking to Town TV, Travis said: “I’m really happy to be here and can’t wait to get started.

“When I knew Ipswich were calling I jumped at the chance, given the league position and the unbelievable start to the season the team has had.

“To be a part of a team like this is something I’m very excited about and I’m looking forward to playing in front of the supporters.

“I have had good, honest conversations with the Manager and I think the style of play will suit me. I am aggressive both with and without the ball, which I think is what he liked, so it’s about me getting in there and impressing.”

Travis will wear the number 28 shirt during his stint at Portman Road and will join the Blues’ first-team squad next week.

He becomes Town’s second signing of the January transfer window, after Kieran McKenna bolstered his attacking ranks with the loan signing of winger Jeremy Sarmiento from Brighton earlier this week.
