Ipswich Town supporter and patron Irene Davey dies at 89





A large amount of tributes have been paid following the death of Ipswich Town supporter, committee member and patron Irene Davey.

Irene, who died aged 89, has supported the football club for close to 80 years after attending her first Ipswich Town match in 1945.

She was the chairman of the Ipswich branch of the Supporters Club for 40 years, a committee member and patron of the Official Supporters Club and also a coach steward on away games.

Ipswich Town wrote on X: “The Club was saddened to learn of the passing of Irene Davey.

“May she rest in peace.”

Many who knew Irene posted to social media to share their condolences.

One commenter said: “This woman touched so many hearts.

“A well loved lady and a devoted town fan.”

Another said: “Such very sad news.

“Irene was a wonderful lady who dedicated so much time to the club and the supporters.

“She was always very welcoming and loved talking about the club.”

One added: “A true blue all the way who will be missed by a great many people.”
