Ipswich Town: Kyle Edwards to recover from injury at League One club Oxford United despite loan deal ending

An Ipswich Town winger will continue to recover from injury at a League One club despite his season-long loan spell being cut short.

Kyle Edwards scored twice in four appearances for Oxford United before picking up a hamstring injury at the end of September.

The 25-year-old will undergo rehabilitation from his hamstring injury at the U’s even though the two clubs agreed to end the loan amid injury frustration.

Edwards had returned to action in November for their games against Cheltenham Town and Bolton Wanderers, but ended up reaggravating his hamstring injury, causing a major setback.

However, Oxford will keep Edwards for his rehabilitation schedule, and with his contract set to expire this summer, it could mean that his long-term future lies at the Kassam Stadium.

Manager Des Buckingham said via the Oxford Mail: "Kyle wasn’t expected to return until the start of April, with the new information we have on him.

“He will continue his rehab here at Oxford, and we’ll make sure we can work with him, to get him back where he was, and where he needs to be.

“He’s got a settled life down here now, Ipswich are happy with it, and he’s happy with the rehab team we have here, so it makes sense for him while he’s got his life moved here, for us to get him back where he wanted to.

“Ipswich were happy for that to happen, and so was he, and we’ll accommodate that because he got injured while he was here and we at least owe him that.”
