Ipswich Town’s FA Cup tie with Maidstone United selected for live BBC broadcast

Ipswich Town will be back on mainstream television later this month with their Emirates FA Cup tie with Maidstone United at Portman Road set to be screened live on BBC One.

The fourth-round tie with the Vanarama National League South side – the lowest ranked team left in the competition – has been confirmed as being picked as one of the BBC’s two live games as they hope for another giant-killing act.

It will take place with a 12.30pm kick-off on Saturday, January 27 and be shown on BBC One, as well as BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website with both clubs now set to receive a £110,000 live broadcast fee.

Town reached the last 32 of the world’s oldest and most famous domestic cup competition with a 3-1 victory at AFC Wimbledon last weekend.

George Elokobi’s Kent-based side caused the upset of the third round by overcoming League One Stevenage 1-0 at home to reach the fourth round for the first time since their reformation in 1992.

Ticket details for the tie in Suffolk – which will see former Town academy graduate George Fowler make his return – are yet to be released.

It means Kieran McKenna’s promotion-chasing side will now play in front of the TV cameras for three games in a row.

Saturday’s 5.30pm kick-off with Sunderland being shown by Sky Sports, which is also screening the current top two clash at Leicester City on Monday, January 22 (8pm).
