Cricket: Suffolk Men’s 1st XI will break new ground in both white-ball competitions next season

Suffolk Men’s 1st XI will break new ground in both white-ball competitions next season.

They will visit Sprowston CC for the first time to face Norfolk in the NCCA T20 competition, the host county choosing to move their white-ball fixtures away from Manor Park, home of Horsford CC.

Next year sees a change to the format of the T20 competition, with just three double-header group games instead of four as previously, with the top two from each group qualifying for the Super 12s.

If Suffolk qualify, they will then face two other counties on the same day at one venue, with the winner proceeding to Finals Day at Tring Park CC.

Suffolk will make the long journey to Colwall CC, another new ground, to take on Herefordshire in one of their 50-over NCCA Trophy fixtures.

In the NCCA Championship Eastern Division One, Suffolk will visit Stafford CC when they meet Staffordshire in a three-day match.

Suffolk’s other away Championship match will be against Buckinghamshire at Tring Park CC, where they lost to Oxfordshire in the 2021 play-off final.

Suffolk’s new head coach Adam Mansfield said: “With the fixtures being announced, the excitement for the season really starts to kick in.

“With venues and opposition confirmed, we can begin to make plans that will structure our winter training programme. I’m really excited about this new chapter for Suffolk Cricket.

“The Showcase game being against Essex is also fantastic news. There is a good link between the counties, and we’re always keen to provide National Counties cricket for their younger players to help further their development.

“I’m sure we'll get a good crowd in, and Woolpit Cricket Club will make the day a memorable one.”
